Barbara Kiernan, PhD:

is Director of the Center and Lecturer in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at The University of Arizona. She was awarded the PhD from The University of Arizona in l993 and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship during l993-l994. Dr. Kiernan has extensive experience with children learning first and second languages, in both the United States and in Venezuela. Her area of research and teaching focuses on language learning and development of children with impaired language skills. 

Karen Rost Zakerwski:

Karen is a director and lead teacher in the Owls preschool classroom at Wings On Words Preschool and Kindergarten. She has a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development and a Master's in Preschool Special Education. Prior to working at Wings on Words, she worked for eleven years as a teacher for the Head Start program and ten years as the director of preschool special education programs for the Marana School District. She has been at Wings On Words for the past five years and worked for three years as a summer camp teacher for the Child Language Center. Karen is a member of the Tucson Association for the Education of Young Children, the local chapter of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Rebecca McCrystal:

Rebecca is a kindergarten teacher at Wings on Words Preschool and Kindergarten. She received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She received an English as a Second Language endorsement from the University of Phoenix and is currently working towards a Master's degree in Special Education from the University of Arizona. She was a teacher in the Altar Valley School District and also worked for the Department of Developmental Disabilities early intervention program for children birth to age three.

Candy Kennelly:

Candy is an Instructional Specialist at Wings on Words Preschool and Kindergarten and is the lead teacher in the Hummingbird preschool classroom. She is currently working to receive her Child Development Associate degree. Prior to working at Wings on Words, she worked in the Navajo schools and A.C.E.S. preschool. Candy has also been very involved in boy and girl scouting and youth groups in the community

Lea Cuzner:

Lea is a Clinical Instructor and Speech Language Pathologist at Wings on Words Preschool and Kindergarten. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder in Communication Disorders and Speech Sciences. She then went on to receiver her Master's degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Arizona. Lea speaks French and Spanish as well as English. She has traveled and worked as a trainer of Speech Language Pathologists and Deaf Educators in Ecuador and also as a Speech Language Pathologist in Mali. Lea's experience in speech therapy continued in the Sunnyside School District, at University Medical Center and in a special needs preschool in Marana.

Meg Glasston:

Meg is a Clinical Instructor and Speech Language Pathologist at Wings on Words Preschool and Kindergarten. She received her Bachelor's degree in Romance Languages and her Master's degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Arizona. Meg speaks Spanish as well as English. She worked at Tucson Medical Center for two years in their pediatric therapies department. She participated in the speech-language and hearing screening project in Tucson preschools while she was a Child Language Center Fellowship Recipient from 1998-2000.

Marina Hinds:

Marina is an instructional aide at Wings on Words Preschool and Kindergarten. She teaches in the Quail Kindergarten classroom. Marina is bilingual in both English and Spanish. She is currently working towards receiving her Child Development Associate's degree through Pima Community College. Prior to working at Wings on Words, she worked as a teaching assistant at Rogers Elementary School. She has also worked as a Membership Specialist for Sahuaro Girl Scouts. She is involved in the Tucson community through soccer, girl scouts and AYUSA, a student exchange program

Olivia Chiquette:

Olivia is an instructional aide at Wings on Words Preschool and Kindergarten. She teaches 3-5 year old children in the Hummingbird preschool classroom. She is currently pursuing her Child Development Associate's degree at Pima Community College. Olivia is bilingual in both Spanish and English. Prior to working at Wing on Words, she worked as an instructional aide in Tanque Verde School District.

Adriane Price:

Adriane is an instructional aide at Wings on Words Preschool and Kindergarten. She teaches 3-5 year olds in the Owl preschool classroom. Adriane attended Pima Community College and received an Associate's degree in Social Sciences. She is currently attending the University of Arizona, majoring in Family Studies. She will graduate in May of 2003. Prior to working at Wings on Words, Adriane worked at Ryan Early Language Center as an Assistant Director. She is involved in working with the youth group at her church.
